Okay, there wasn’t actually a hurricane at this year’s National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show in Albuquerque. We had wind and rain with a healthy dash of chaos to really set off the event, though. There just wasn’t any of the downside you get in an actual tropical storm.
(Sort of) Live from the Fiery Foods Show
This year’s National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show is going so well it took me until now to post an update about it. Saturday was even more hectic (and a lot of fun). Here’s a brief snapshot of a photo gallery for you, including a couple pics of celebrity guest chef Norman Van Aken giving his tasty fish demo on Friday night.
Off to the Show!
Time to pack a weekend bag before I fly out to Albuquerque for the National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show in the a-m. I’ll be posting plenty of photos in case you can’t make it, but if you can, you should. Here’s a tentative schedule of what you can expect when you’re not busy prowling the aisles for fire:
Greg Mays Reviews Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila
Flavored vodka has exploded in both popularity and absurdity over the last 5 years. You can find everything from sweet to savory on the vodka liquor shelf, but it’s mostly low-quality and artificially flavored.
Tequila, however, which is overseen by the Tequila Regulatory Council of Mexico, couldn’t legally contain any additional flavorings until 2004. As a result, you’ll find fewer flavored tequilas at the stores.
Rick Browne at the Fiery Foods & BBQ Show
Rick will demonstrate Taxi Stand Jerk Chicken at the Fiery Foods & BBQ Show.

Burn! Tested: Pepper Burn Anodyne
Any chef who’s worked with hot peppers will tell to make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after handling the things. Capsaicin has this very endearing habit of being hard to was away with conventional soap and water, though. Just ask anyone who’s ever rubbed their eyes or used the restroom after cutting up a bunch of jalapenos, then given their hands a quick was under the faucet. Twenty minutes later, the swearing stops as the burning wears off. This is why Marlin Belsinger came up with Chromtec’s Pepper Burn Anodyne. To test it out, I shot myself in the face with pepper spray and used the anodyne to alleviate one of the dumbest ideas I’ve ever had.
