Any chef who’s worked with hot peppers will tell to make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after handling the things. Capsaicin has this very endearing habit of being hard to was away with conventional soap and water, though. Just ask anyone who’s ever rubbed their eyes or used the restroom after cutting up a bunch of jalapenos, then given their hands a quick was under the faucet. Twenty minutes later, the swearing stops as the burning wears off. This is why Marlin Belsinger came up with Chromtec’s Pepper Burn Anodyne. To test it out, I shot myself in the face with pepper spray and used the anodyne to alleviate one of the dumbest ideas I’ve ever had.
Burn! Tested: Gringo Killer Sauces
My buddy in New Zealand, Harvey Yeager, is one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met. A little while back, he kicked me two bottles of New Zealand’s Gringo Killer sauces to play with here in the U.S. When I saw one was named Wood smoked bhutt burn gourmet chilli sauce, I knew this wasn’t going to be a gastronomical cakewalk. And I was right.
Reviewed: Ray Lampe’s guide to Pork Chops
Pork chops being one of my favorite foods ever, I was pretty eager to see what Dr. BBQ had to say about them in his latest cookbook, Pork Chop: 60 Recipes for Living High on the Hog. I was not disappointed.
Burn! Tested: Grill Daddy BBQ Multi-Tools and Burger Stomper’s Slider Press
After I’ve spent a few hours over a hot grill, the last thing I want to do is wash a bunch of barbecue tools and do the dishes. Usually this is because my innate laziness and The Itis dictate I take a nap. Grill Daddy understands my lack of motivation and made their line of Heat Shield tools to make it a little less likely I sit on my backside with a sink full of dirty dishes. Here’s what I mean.
Burn! Tested: The Tappecue Wi-Fi Thermometer
Need a great Christmas gift for that special outdoor cook on your Christmas list? Although a bit pricy (but in the same price range as similar units), take a look at the Tappecue, a four-probe Wi-Fi enabled remote thermometer that is compatible with iPhones, iPads, iPods and Android devices. It does not work with a Windows phone. With the built-in Wi-Fi interface, you can even allow your friends to monitor how your cook is going. The probe temperature range is 50 to 500 degrees F. and the probes have six-foot cables that make them very adaptable to most smokers and cookers. (You can even use the Tappecue to monitor oven temperatures if you’re cooking indoors).
Burn! Tested: The popsQtool
I recently received a popsQtool from popsQtool.com and it’s a great multipurpose tool for backyard cookers. The two laser cut utensils combine a spatula, fork, serrated knife, bottle opener and grill cleaner. When the fork and spatula sections are joined, the two tools become tongs. How can you go wrong with that combination? Six tools in one!
Burn! Tested: Burger Stomper
Football season means tailgating and that’s where Burger Stomper comes in. Seeing as how I loves me some tail(gating) and a good burger, this seemed like a good time to take Burger Stomper out for for a test drive.
