Just to be clear, I like any hand tool that reminds me of a lightsaber. That’s part of the appeal of the Grillight spatula, here. At least, for me. Honestly, if it had a little speaker and made lightsaber noises every time you flipped a burger, I’d grill in a full Darth Vader costume for the rest of my geeky little life. Grillight doesn’t. What it does do, surprisingly well, is illuminate your food while flipping it over hot grates.
Island Grillstone
I’ve cooked on salt blocks from the Himalayans, cedar planks from the Northwest, apple wood planks from New Hampshire and a bunch of other stuff but never a piece of volcanic rock! I used it to cook steak, poultry, veggies, seafood and even pizza! Unlike a salt block, the grill stone doesn’t add any salt flavor to the food so you need to season the food before cooking.
Burn! Tested: King Tong
Warning: King Tong is not for the timid. And it shouldn’t be. Not with a name that cool. C’mon. Depending on what type of movie you like, it sounds like either a pun on King Kong, a Chinese crimelord in a kung fu movie, or an adult film actor with a very strange “mutation.” In reality, it’s a heavy duty stainless steel pincer for manipulating coals and burning wood chunks from over two feet away.
Burn! Tested: Grill Daddy BBQ Multi-Tools and Burger Stomper’s Slider Press
After I’ve spent a few hours over a hot grill, the last thing I want to do is wash a bunch of barbecue tools and do the dishes. Usually this is because my innate laziness and The Itis dictate I take a nap. Grill Daddy understands my lack of motivation and made their line of Heat Shield tools to make it a little less likely I sit on my backside with a sink full of dirty dishes. Here’s what I mean.
Burn! Tested: The Tappecue Wi-Fi Thermometer
Need a great Christmas gift for that special outdoor cook on your Christmas list? Although a bit pricy (but in the same price range as similar units), take a look at the Tappecue, a four-probe Wi-Fi enabled remote thermometer that is compatible with iPhones, iPads, iPods and Android devices. It does not work with a Windows phone. With the built-in Wi-Fi interface, you can even allow your friends to monitor how your cook is going. The probe temperature range is 50 to 500 degrees F. and the probes have six-foot cables that make them very adaptable to most smokers and cookers. (You can even use the Tappecue to monitor oven temperatures if you’re cooking indoors).
Burn! Tested: The popsQtool
I recently received a popsQtool from popsQtool.com and it’s a great multipurpose tool for backyard cookers. The two laser cut utensils combine a spatula, fork, serrated knife, bottle opener and grill cleaner. When the fork and spatula sections are joined, the two tools become tongs. How can you go wrong with that combination? Six tools in one!
Burn! Tested: Burger Stomper
Football season means tailgating and that’s where Burger Stomper comes in. Seeing as how I loves me some tail(gating) and a good burger, this seemed like a good time to take Burger Stomper out for for a test drive.
