I love the Gilroy Garlic Festival almost as much as I do our own National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show. For the last thirty five years, California’s garlic hub, Gilroy, has hosted an annual event dedicated to The Stinking Rose (aka garlic). The event was founded way back in 1979 by Dr. Rudy Melone, Val Filice, and Don Christopher. Mostly likely as a way to celebrate garlic and raise money for charities, not so much as a way to deal with Northern California’s notorious vampire infestation.
Beer, Bikes, and Buffalo Chili
This year, the largest motorcycle rally in the world kicks off early with a chili contest at the Buffalo Chip Sturgis. If you’re riding out to the Sturgis motorcycle rally a little early this year and you want a little fire in your belly before the crowd hits max capacity, it’ll be a great chance for you to do just that. Especially if, like me, you love the idea of motorcycles and buffalo chili.
The Day After: The Fourth Ends, the BBQ Does Not
Happy Independence Day, everybody! This may be the busiest backyard barbecue day of the year, but there’s no reason the fun has to stop when the last fireworks have faded into the night sky. Chile Pepper Voodoo Invades New Orleans
If you’re looking for a fall show to attend or display your wares, Chile Pepper Magazine’s Chile Pepper Extravaganza may be just your ticket.
KCBS Giveaways: Game On
Since nobody bought me that Big Green Egg I asked for last Christmas, I’ve decided to win one. As part of National Barbecue Month, the KCBS is running a series of giveaways on Facebook, one of which is for said egg. Interested? Read on.
The 10th Annual Bartels Harley-Davidson Chili Cook Off
Thirteen years ago, when I was an extremely green rookie motojournalist for Hot Rod Bikes magazine, I found out about the happy marriage of Harleys and chili while wolfing down a bowl of the stuff at the annual custom bike show during the Laughlin River Run. I knew the two were a natural match but it took me a second to figure out why. Both are customizable American icons and nothing complements a long day on the road like a quick bite of good food. Why wouldn’t they be a great fit?
