In my neverending quest for uses for fruit-based hot sauces that don’t involve mixing them up with cream cheese, barbecue sauce seems like a good choice. If you were at our show earlier this year, you probably saw all of the fruit-based fiery jams, jellies, and hot sauces that are gaining popularity right now. This blackberry barbecue sauce would be perfect for one of those things; just use a raspberry, blueberry or other berry-based concoction for the hot sauce element.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1 tsp chopped garlic
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp molasses
- 1 tbsp hot sauce of your choice
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 3 cups fresh blackberries, crushed
Servings: cups
Instructions
- Heat the butter in a saucepan, add onion and garlic and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add all the other ingredients including the berries and cook for about 10 minutes in a slow simmer. You may wish to let this reduce down a bit if the sauce appears too thin.
